It was really kind of funny - even though my ISP is also a a rep for SW Bell they didn't know the things existed until they became one of the original beta sites for the x2 56K. Every now and then they would run into someone who couldn't get anything more than 28.8K even though their neighbors or fellow apartment dwellers were doing fine. After some investigation the existence of these "pair gain" boxes was discovered.
