Sounds like everyone is sort of skirting the issue.
Experts say.... "don't worry, it doesn't cause tumors, it only enhances the growth of those that already exist." That is, "it's not a carcinogen."
Other experts say...... "only a small fraction of transplant recipients have pre-existing tumors." That is, "it'll only lead to a rapid death in a few individuals."
Both groups of experts try to reassure you, and sound very expert while doing such. The experts at Novartis say "be happy, don't worry".
However, another group of experts will tell you that tumors occur in all individuals, virtually all of the time, and that the immune system controls them. That group of experts would say, correctly, that the increased incidence of herpes virus-induced lymphomas and KS in AIDS patients is evidence for their view. They would also say, therefore, that new transformants might flourish in immunosuppressed individuals, particularly if CyA elicits an "autocrine" growth factor.
Experts lavish dogma all over things they don't understand. |
