A year ago, I didn't know the difference between OTC-BB and NASDAQ or any other reputable exchange, notwithstanding the fact that I should have known. I learned - and thankfully lost no money - because I look before I leap, and because there were people who helped me with my lessons.
Your post can be summarized in the pumper's mantra "Do your own DD." Of course we all are responsible for our own investing decisions but that does not absolve the pumpers from responsibility for their activities which straddle the line of criminality, and many times cross over that line.
There is no proportionality in your post. Yes, if I walk up to a street vendor's table and lose money on a game of "hide the pea," its my fault for placing my money on the table. However, the game was still illegal and con artist running the game still deserves to go to jail. Perhaps, if a policeman was around, the street vendor never would have set up the game and therefore I would not have been tempted to play and to lose my money. Perhaps if a friend, or just someone I respect, had been nearby they would have warned me off. Then, there would be no crying over spilt milk, and the "official" police would not have to clean up the mess after the a fact.
...Yet it is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till. What weather they shall have is not ours to rule....
