I think the market's increased volatility over the years has made it very difficult to position trade. And even if volatility had stayed the same, the same percentage move at these levels is a large nominal dollar move so money management is more difficult without trading smaller time frames. If you look at the statistics of the amount of time the market actually trends, it actually works against the position trader, if one is trading off the daily chart, since the majority of the time, the market is in a trading range. That said, we are probably close to the end of the trading range observed since January. Friday and yesterday were agony, consolidating the move from friday morning. Yesterday was probably the narrowest range day in both SP and T bond futures in a long time, so today should bring a breakout day of some sort.
