If QQQ trades like a stock, you can buy them on margin, sell short or hold your shares for the long term. As for trading costs and margin requirements, you will need to contact you own broker. Some of the internet stocks have different margin requirements than "normal" stocks. Other rules differ between firms.

You might also take a look at XLK which are 82 large technology companies.

Both of these have a rather large percentage of Microsoft in their portfolio.
