Yeah, I was thinking that you would be trading the Futures so perhaps that's why I suggested the Futures Contracts. I don't like the Cash because for one thing it does not give you a True Open number. If the spoo gaps then you don't see the "right" Open.

Also, it's hard to trade the Future off the Cash because of Premium erosion. But you don't have that with the SPY.

I guess the best thing may be to mix and match and see how the differing systems perform.

I don't know much about Rydex, it's a manner of dealing with the market that I considered several years ago. I don't recall why I discarded it.

However, Fred uses it. He would know more about the fees and so forth. As far as the poor entry EOD is concerned, well that's what the Models are keying off anyway, EOD price. But I imagine if you are trying to get a better price then of course you may be better off creating or dissolving the Position intraday.
