NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--DoubleClick Inc. (DCLK) is focusing on innovative products to maintain and improve its position in the online advertising space, said Chief Executive Kevin O'Connor.

The New York company's DART technology is "the building block that all of our other products operate from," O'Connor told CNBC Tuesday.

DART, a Web-based service, allows a site or network of sites to manage ad serving and reporting functions.

DoubleClick recently placed $200 million of convertible subordinated notes due March 15, 2006, through a private offering.

The company raised the money to assure it capital over the next few years, O'Connor said.

"What we know is that in two or three years, we're going to face a lot of different opportunities," O'Connor said. "What we didn't want to do is find ourselves capital constrained. If there is one lesson I've learned in business, it's raise money when you don't need money."

DoubleClick may use a portion of the proceeds for acquisitions.

O'Connor described the kind of acquisition it would be interested in: "If we take a look at acquisitions, it would be from a strategic technology standpoint. It would be for market. ... It could be consolidation. It could be any number of factors."

O'Connor added DoubleClick would never enter the agency space because it would be a conflict of interest.
