It's Howdy Doody Time, again! The newspaper is funnier than fiction. How many of you remember Howdy Doody? Buffalo Bob? Kookla, Fran, and Ollie?? Do you remember Clarabell ??? Honk! Honk!! (God, it all comes back!)
Well in 1999, the original Howdy Doody is the subject of a custody battle, is trapped in a safe deposit box in Connecticut, while the case is tried in federal court in Hartford.
No trial date has been set. -----------------------------------------

What's even funnier to me, i remember TV at that time. I was 4. My folks had the first TV on the block -- a heavy monster-in-a-cabinet with an 8 or 10-inch screen -- that cost a small fortune compared to TVs today. There was a matching cabinet with a radio, and a turntable that played 78-inch records. I had a cord with allegator clips, so i could could record my favorite music from the radio directly onto my reel-to-reel tape recorder. Do you remember "Aba dabba honeymoon?"
Our living room rug got warn out from all the kids in the neighborhood eating/dropping popcorn, and grinding it in.
Every day, the first few years, there were only 3 or 4 shows on, all day long -- one or two on each of the three channels .
Back then, most of the day, there was only a pattern -- so when a show WAS on, the whole neighborhood would congregate (the way my kids and their friends do now for a Holyfield fight). The remote control was not dreamed of, and adjusting the picture and keeping it from rolling was an art.
When there was a show, reception was frequently lost for long periods of time -- and the network broadcast the familiar, "The problems you are experiencing are not the fault of your receiver."
Does anybody remember this?? I feel like a relic. Cheryl |
