Look at DELL, MSFT, EBAY, AOL, YHOO, etc. These stocks have generally done very well running into the stock split.

Mostly b/c the smart guys will buy 50 shares pre-split (i.e. $100) and the pyschologically-challenged buy 100 ($50/share) post-split. This is b/c they feel the shares are "cheaper." Since many feel it "cheaper" demand pushes the stock up from $50 to, say, $70 in a short period of time, b/c it seems more "affordable" at $50-$70/share.
