The recurrent idea that WCOM will buy NXTL seems less sensible than before, since the establishment of CDMA as worldwide system. Nextel's system is not only incomplete, but not upgradeable so will occupy only a limited, inexpensive niche for users with limited needs. Entry into multichannel/multipoint distribution says Nextlink, which would be understandable. Could we be looking at a package deal to be completed maybe three years out?
