My brother didn't. Used large poles with strong line. Said it was a blast. I don't know if spearing is allowed. I know the Indians can spear Walleyes at a certain time of year.....a law which has caused considerable controversy and trouble. Not sure anyone else is allowed to spear anything, but I could be wrong on that.
