Mytec announces Touchstone(R) Pro, a new trusted biometric product

TORONTO, April 22 /CNW/ - Mytec Technologies Inc. introduces
Touchstone(R) Pro, an evolution in biometric solutions for network access
security.
Touchstone Pro, security with the touch of a finger, is one-third the
size and one-third the price of Mytec's previous network access product.
Mytec's robust biometric fingerprint solution, aimed at network access
security concerns, has been improved with the addition of the latest silicon
sensor technology. This has allowed Mytec to take Touchstone Pro to the most
advanced level of technology in the industry.
''The response has been remarkable,'' says Mytec's Chairman Ross
Hutchison. ''Whenever we demonstrate Touchstone Pro, clients respond to its
performance, compact size and competitive pricing.''
Touchstone Pro's on-board processing power makes it a trusted and secure
biometric device because all sensitive operations happen within the device and
not on the host PC. Once all operations are complete and authentication is
confirmed, the user's secret key is released from Touchstone Pro. This key is
protected by link encryption while traveling to the host, preventing snooping
and replay attacks.
Touchstone Pro is backward compatible with the existing Touchstone SDK
(Software Developer's Kit), preserving the investment in customized
applications developed by Mytec customers.
Using Siemens' new silicon sensor technology, Touchstone Pro is a compact
device that takes up almost no room on your desktop and can be packed into a
laptop carrying case. The new technology also has allowed Touchstone Pro to be
more economical, providing a network access security solution for $299US.
''I've been working in security for over 20 years and organizations all
over the world have been seeking a secure, trusted environment for network
access security,'' says Dennis Hollingshead, President and CEO of Mytec.
''Siemens has enthusiastically embraced our use of their sensor technology
and, with that, we now believe we have the answer.''
Mytec is embarking on a campaign to enroll partners to join them in
providing security solutions for network access for a variety of industries,
including finance, government, healthcare and telecommunications.
Demonstrations and additional information will be available at the Mytec
booth No.1114 at CardTech/SecureTech in Chicago on May 11-14, 1999.

Mytec Technologies Inc. (MYT:TSE), headquartered in Toronto, is a leading
provider of fingerprint-based biometric solutions to organizations requiring a
high level of security for network and physical access. Mytec provides strong
authentication through the use of a unique, robust finger pattern recognition
algorithm, operating in a trusted device. Individual privacy is maintained
because only a non-reversible biometric template is stored, not the
fingerprint itself.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Counterforce, Mytec also provides
alarm monitoring services to more than 680 Independent Alarm Company partners
who sell, install and service security alarm systems. Visit our website:
