NEWS about symbol confusion:

Company Press Release
PanAmerican BanCorp Announces: PanAmerican BanCorp Ticker Symbol PABN
HAUPPAUGE, NY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1999--PanAmerican BanCorp has become aware of some confusion regarding the company's ticker symbol, PABN. Prior to the assignment of the symbol PABN to PanAmerican BanCorp, PABN was assigned to another unrelated financial institution, Pacific Capital Bancorp. Pacific Capital Bancorp merged with Santa Barbara Bancorp on Dec. 30, 1998 and now trades under the new symbol SABB. There is no relation between PanAmerican BanCorp and the previous company using the PABN symbol.

However, because many Internet search engines and web sites use the ticker symbol for indexing, Internet users searching for information on PanAmerican BanCorp using the ticker symbol PABN will receive information on PanAmerican BanCorp and older information relating to the previous symbol holder, Pacific Capital Bancorp. This may appear erroneous; however it is entirely accurate since PABN was the symbol for Pacific Capital Bancorp at the time their news was released.

PanAmerican BanCorp has contacted as many investor web sites and investor bulletin boards as possible and have asked them to remedy this situation on their web sites. Unfortunately, PanAmerican BanCorp does not have control over this issue and regrets any confusion that may arise from this matter.

PanAmerican BanCorp shareholders and other interested parties are encouraged to qualify any searches using the ticker symbol PABN with the company name, PanAmerican BanCo rp, to ensure accurate information.

Except for historical information, the matters discussed in this news release may be considered ''Forward-looking'' statements, within the meaning of Section 27A of the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, and Section 21E of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended. Prospective investors are cautioned that nay such forward-looking statements are not guarantees of future performances and involve a number of risks and uncertainties that could materially affect results.
