Well I think it's interesting that RNWK is coming out with an MP3 player in the Fall, it signals a submission to mp3. And what's going on with that RNWK-Ibm deal in audio-video streaming. And then Ibm/Sony are talking about their copyproof downloadable music. Then there's Microsoft talking about their audio 4 format. It's very complicated but the dust appears to be settleing when RNWK announced their mp3 player. RNWK working with Ibm, Ibm working with Sony, do any of them know what the scheme of things is or are they all concentrating on their own little projects and not focused on the big picture. In the meantime I got this link from the DIMD board:
internetworld.com

It appears that MP3 is going to win with RNWK's latest announcement. Is this bad for cdnw? Well first of all, cdnw like Amazon uses RNWK tech for hearing samples with the Real audio streaming. I would think RNWK would want to keep this going on and be a possible suitor it they had the cash. MusicMatch which is the software that comes with the Diamondmulti-media Rio so that you can convert your cds into mp3 files has a number of buttons on it:

Recorder Player CDDB Buy Music

Well what do you think happens when you click buy music? Internet explorer starts up and if your connected to the internet your whisked away to CDNW!!!. But this is a question I have? Why pay for copyproof mp3 music that you can download off the web when for free you can convert the cds that you already own into mp3 files? Or why not just buy CDs and then convert them into mp3 files? And when they make mp3 copyproof, that may be great if you just want one song, but then it might be encrypted so that you won't be able to make copies.
