BEL/WCOM not likely IMHO. Observations that lead me to his conclusion:

WCOM out bid GTE for MCI. GTE/BEL cleared by FCC. GTE officials will still have powerful positions in the merged GTE/BEL entity. GTE culture anything but progressive (ala WCOM). BEL culture not all that progressive either. It may be a good fit for business logistics, but I do not see these entrenched mgmt teams giving up power to a telecom "renegade" like Mr. Ebbers.

Also, the DOJ will not allow BEL into the long distance market until they allow local access. To my knowledge this is still an issue. Would a WCOM buyout be a way around the regulators?
