Several of you have encouraged me to post info on Charles Vaccaro, aka Vaccarro. When I look into a company for investment purposes I try to look beyond the prospectus and PR releases and research the individuals involved. Locating info on Gold Country Securities and Insider Trading was troublesome in the beginning because of the spelling variation in V's name. His name is VACCARO.. All of the web info on Insider Trading has his name spelled with 2 r's; even the investor sponsored page at Geocite is misleading... Charles V's wife's name is Lorrie, not Laurie. The photos are good, tho. (www.geocites.com/wallstreet/market/3062/gardentradingcenter/gardencitytrading.html).
I think the spelling variation, at least in Vaccaro, is intentional on Mr. Vacarro's part.
My first insight into this mess was provided by a syndicated article by Susan Antilla of Bloomberg News. It came out Sept. 7, 1997: here's an excerpt:

YOU MIGHT KNOW that Tony Curtis is really Bernie Schwartz. Or that Bob Dylan
is actually Robert Zimmerman.
But chances are you wouldn't know that Cortlandt Capital Corp. was really
Greenway Capital. * * * *
Name changes aren't necessarily done to deceive investors, but they can be a
red flag nonetheless. Greenway Capital Corp. became Cortlandt Capital Corp. on
Jan. 23. Greenway's name doesn't appear on records that go to investors,
although all its violations appear. A spokesman for the National Association of
Securities Dealers says investors would learn of the previous name if they
called NASD to inquire about the company.
The violations include several investor arbitration claims; a $500,000 NASD
fine for charges of manipulation that the company neither admitted nor denied; a
cease-and-desist order by the SEC related to its handling of a private
placement; and state regulatory problems including cease-and-desist orders by
Minnesota and New Hampshire, and a suspension from North Carolina.
Six months after the changing of Greenway's name, the firm reconstituted as
Cortlandt was facing troubles again. A former broker says he came to work on
July 25 only to be told he couldn't trade any more. No one was answering phones
at Cortlandt's 45 Broadway office in New York recently. A woman answering the
phone at a Mott Street office said the company was now called Gold Country,
and that she would have a superior call back. None did.

Gold Country Securities is a Calif. Corp., although the registered owner (Worcester) says he sold it to Vaccaro in 1997. The California corporate securities regulators at (916) 327-0308 have Gold Country listed at 600 Old Country Road, Ste 318, Garden City, NY; the names on the listing are David Worcester, Charles Vaccaro and Susan Young U.
I appreciate the fact that providing links to the info is important for credibility purposes. Unfortunately, most of the files are from paid subscription databases.
Here's the info on the New York corporate record, active date is 10-14-97. Vacarro's name is not mentioned.
