I have not read much about the reverse merger - if the companies were spun off as a dividend to existing shareholders then the shorts would also be short the spinoff companies.

non-hypothecation letter goes to your broker - it prevents him from lending your long position to anyone. Ask your broker for a form letter to do exactly that or ask for your certs. either way he can no longer lend your stock out.
