NASDAQ stocks do not trade like NYSE stocks. Each stock is handled by a group of marketmakers. They get together and make the trades. IMHO it is not as efficient as a centralized market, but these market makers often support a thinly traded stock.

It is why I will NEVER use a market order on a NASDAQ stock. The sword cuts both ways though, I had an offer to buy ADFC since the IPO day at 22.5, when the stock collapsed lasdt week I got filled at 20!! But pity the poor seller who din't see my ibd.
