PIII, 810 chip set bang heads

An erratum affecting the Pentium III's single-instruction, multiple-data multimedia instruction keeps the current version of Intel's integrated 810 chip set from working with Pentium III chips. Intel created a workaround for the PIII erratum, but the 810 does not support it, making the chip set incompatible with the Pentium III.

The 810 chip set, which integrates a three-dimensional graphics engine and supports modem and audio functions in software, was not designed or validated to work with the Pentium III, said Intel spokesman Dan Francisco. Slated to ship this month, the chip set is designed for the company's low-end Celeron processor.

OT: DVD Hardware / Software

I'm shopping for a new DVD-ROM drive and plan to get a V3-3500TV when it comes out. I'm seeing the drive I want available as either a bare drive or with a bundled hardware decoder (RealMagic Hollywood Plus). Based on what we know of the 3500's specs, would getting a dedicated MPEG-2 card actually buy me anything? Forgive my ignorance; I've been thoroughly confused by all the vague/ambiguous DVD support terminology the hardware manufacturers have been throwing at us. I can't tell if the 3500 will be a 100% hardware or hardware/software solution :(
