..... from Standard & Poors Computer Hardware Industry Outlook of June 5, 1999 ..... "The computer industry continues to benefit from the proliferation of networked computing. Indeed, the internet is the world's largest network, and firms that have identified the opportunity of leveraging this network for customers stand to benefit. We view IBM and Sun Microsystems as key visionaries in this area and, therefore the largest beneficiaries."

Significant: Telcordia (Bellcore) SUNW deal announcement will further enhance SUNW telco offerings, which are a very profitable area of SUNW's business.

The future is desktop power rather than large expensive centralized iron with a bunch of un-upgradeable appliances hanging off it. The desktop model makes sense especially as desktop power is increasing as cost/seat is decreasing. The Net provides the medium to interconnect them to take advantage of distributed processing.

Big iron will always have it's place but in a true "network computer model" any computer can provide the processing.

Dale, I have been in of many of the favorites for years: INTC, MSFT, CSCO, and, more recently, EMC, XCIT and ATHM. I don't consider myself a gambler and would like to think I make measured decisions based, in part, upon information and, more particularly, upon my gut feeling based upon what's going on around me.

I remember when I was a kid, perhaps ten years old, sitting at the dinner table with my father, who was always a conservative investor, and suggesting to him that computers are great and that he should buy a company called IBM. Of course, he didn't. But I had that feeling, then, that IBM would become a great company. I have primarily relied upon those same instincts to this day. And while I have not always been right, I have been right more often than not.

This is both a savvy and a good thread. While I do not participate here to any significant degree, I enjoy the varied opinions of many of the posters. It has been, and continues to be, an education for me and I appreciate well reasoned views, both those that are consistent with mine and those that are not.

I have had a feeling about SUNW for the many years I have been invested in it. Over the years, it has been my best performer, and I believe it will continue to be one of my best performers. Often, because of the advanced and changing technology and my lack of an abundance of time, I can't bring myself current with all that is happening with this company. However, my gut tells me that SUNW will do very well over the years. I really believe that, and my only dilemma is whether to buy more, particularly when my cost basis is so low.

Just MHO.

Wow, all these messages in my Inbox. Well all I can say is the facts speak for themselves, the verdict is in, the record is clear. SUNW is in decline. I'm right and you guys are wrong. <G>

I think the DOW will continue to be under pressure, probably drop below 10,000 near-term. The tech stocks like SUNW will underperform the DOW near-term.

I have been right in the past, and there is a good chance I will be right in the future. I will check back with you guys in a few months and we will see if I was once again right.
