GET A CLUE.

This is a joke. It is becoming more and more obvious that "the network is the computer". "Desktop" becomes more obsolete each day as does the "traditional" office. Not that there aren't applications appropriate for the "desktop" but if you think that the over all nature of computing is moving away from a server and onto a desktop you don't have a clue about this industry.

Just my opinion,
Michael

Wow. Is this a joke? Time warp maybe.

Take a look at the growth in Citrix and tell me the dumb PC isn't gaining acceptance.

You are kidding right since your profile says you have back ground in comp science.

Not true. Desktop machines are rapidly being used as devices for accessing information at larger machines. Computing tasks are not at all being pushed out to the desktop.

Well said James. They know you are right, I don't know why they won't admit it. High volume low cost computers and software will win in the market place.

Keep fighting them. <g>

"..The future is desktop power rather than large expensive centralized iron with a bunch of
un-upgradeable appliances hanging off it."

James - well this is a pretty bold statement. Im not sure exactly how you came up with this - every indication is that desktop "power" is being reduced to a Java Based Browser and ubiquitous access to the Net on a low cost device which today is a PC and tomorrow will be a palm pilot or yes, a network computer.

your about 10 years behind the curve and reading from Microsoft's hymnal - that your going to happily jaunt down to compusa and buy some overweight software that is obsolete tomorrow and spend hours installing it while you plan for your next processor and OS upgrade from Microsoft and Intel. You computer hobbyists never change do you?
