Frank...that you would suspect DLJ of doing something underhanded? Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.

it has and always will be manipulated with all stocks. if i recall correctly, bear stearns told investors that dell could bounce on monday and behold it did. i suspect the brokerages sold short only to cover some today with the downgrade. just be patient, dell is a good company and you can't keep a good company down.

I believe Neil Young stated:
Paranoia runs deep, into your life it will creep. It starts when your always afraid..... Step out line the man comes and takes you away. We gotta Stop children what's that sound, everybody looks what going round.

Or words to that effect. Sorry I digress

frank...it does appear a bit machiavellian...

not much the average investor can do..the sec sees nothing wrong, unless proof of market/issue manipulation can be brought forward....just got to learn how to ride the waves..hold strong, fundamentally sound underlying positions, sell puts when they downgrade, sell calls when they upgrade..and the worse that can happen is you own more of what you wanted to own at a lower price, or you lose what you have at a profit....and if you are correct and in rhythm with the market, you collect enough premiums that eventually your adjusted cost basis is zero, and you can tell them all to go to hell...

Frank,

I feel like these guys are ripping us off with our hand tied behind our backs.

I have felt this way for a long time.

DELL is the best. Don't ever sell DELL

<<Where is the outrage and there must be something that can be done once in for all. >>
You can go on a crusade to clean up the analysts or just do what I do. Use them as a contrarian indicator and profit it from their upgrades and downgrades like they do. Cynical? Probably, but more profitable than following their recommendations.
I don't know how many times I've seen a major brokerage recommend a buy when a stock is 50 ( for example ) and than a sell when it is 25.

Once upon a time long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away..stocks traded on their own merit! There was no third party (ie. ..analyst to make remarks on a company they were not even involved in) involvement and the stocks moved in a rational manner according to their own performance or lack of. No-one held a hypothetical stick for them to jump over to gain praise. Does anyone remember when and for what sane reason this crap with these analysts and the brokerage houses began? It has gotten completely out of hand..IMHO..'til there is no investing anymore....This is pure and simple gambling. We buy the issue and hope that it gets blessed by the right house so it will go up! Nothing seems to move on its own merit anymore...a case in point....DELL right now...There was nothing..I repeat ..Absolutely nothing wrong with the last earnings report..Hell..I bet most companies would like to do a fraction as well..and what do we get? I am sure we will probably be alright in long run, but why do we have to put up with this horse manure at present? Because all the powers that be are probably in bed with each other for the $$$!!! The little guy is fast becoming a dinosaur in the marketplace..Well..let me put my soapbox back in the closet for now...sometimes I have to vent!..Comments anyone?
