I have never posted this board before but have held TSIG for well over a year while following the soap opera on the SI and RB threads. Although SI has been good entertainment, recent events bear some comment. Although I feel qualified to make comments on the financial aspects of TSIG (I teach finance to masters students), I will instead comment on the board psychology. Although psychology is somewhat outside of my realm of expertise, putting the comments of incessant "bashers" of TSIG into perspective is an exercise in human behavior and only relates to finance is a secondary manner.

Start with this question (which many have asked openly): why would an individual post negatives about a company to the unusual degree that some post negatives on SI? I dismiss two explanations that have been offered:
1) they are simply humanitarians looking out for the interests of others.
2) they are acting as part of a larger conspiracy against the company.

Instead of the altruism or conspiracy theories, I venture the following hypothesis:

These persons are acting in accordance with their egos. Many of these persons have held TSIG before and sold for a loss on the way down. They now must return to vent and to attempt to ensure that they made the correct choice and didn't sell prematurely. They soothe their egos by taking active steps attempting to undermine the stock (whether or not they can actually affect stock movement is unproven). The only way they can feel some relief about the loss they took (or gain they failed to make) is to see the stock stay beneath their own sell price. Realize that ego is very strong. It would have to be for these people to waste precious time ranting about a stock they have no stake in.

Another class of basher also acts in accordance with their egos but an element is added to the equation which makes the result even more vehement and the rhetoric even more potent. This class of basher was personally affected by the company or its officers and has a vendetta. Perhaps they are former employees, perhaps they contracted with the company, or perhaps they are acquaintances with the CEO. Whatever the circumstance, the common denominator is vengeance.

I would speculate that most of the consistent bashers on SI fall into one of the above broad categorizations, and that they are simply acting in accordance with their egos.

Of course I can't prove any of this, but it does make sense. What doesn't make sense at all is that a person would devote countless hours to an endeavor they have no stake in. What I am arguing is that the stake need not be strictly financial (although it may be as when shorters attack a stock); it can also be based on ego.

One caveat: I appreciate some of the well thought out posts that take a negative slant on TSIG and in no way advocate one-sided discussions. But I do hope that a more objective and balanced discussion will be forthcoming.

Regarding financials, business plans, dilution, etc. I will not comment at this time. These things have been beaten to death. Suffice to say that I have made the choice to hold my moderate investment in TSIG.
