S KOREA'S SAMSUNG, CANADA'S NORTEL IN CO-OPERATION DEAL

SEOUL - Samsung Electronics Co (KSE: 05930) and Canada's Nortel Networks have signed a memorandum of understanding under which they will jointly develop an IMT-2000 system and equipment. The deal also calls for co-operation in pilot operation of the next-generation mobile telephone service overseas. Samsung will develop an IMT-2000 handset for mobile pictures and Nortel, the system development for the service. The IMT-2000 equipment that Samsung will supply to Nortel's customers will have a speed of 144 kbps, 10 times that of existing mobile phones.

Does the Q get a piece of the NT equipment contract or did their technology sharing agreement move to Ericy with the sale of the infrastructure division?

Sprint has great television ads... saw one last night with guy in coffee shop... waitress spoke, but her voice broke up like on cheap cellphone... he concluded this was an analog town, then bolted... very clever

suspect advantages of digital generally and CDMA specifically will become known and stressed by the various marketing vehicles
