No doubt about it, the old way wasn't fair for people on the west coast at work when E*trade accepted IOI's at 2:20 in the afternoon, but as far as "first come first serve", it was fair, IMO. Most things in our society are "first come first serve". When you buy something at a store, it is "first come first serve", and if the store sells out of something, oh well, "early bird gets the worm", it shouldn't be any different when buying stocks. It's just that the whiners complained to E*trade and now 1 in maybe 10000 will get shares of something like STRM. Good luck all, you will need it. The "hard work and reward" relationship is over.

Jim, you're avoiding the main issue here...

All paying customers DO have a shot, whether in a FCFS or in a lottery format!

Just like all paying customers have a chance to get World Series tckets... (or I suppose they're fools too? Come on, don't dodge the issue by saying those Star Wars fans were fools - they wanted to be the first to see a flick)

Anyhow, yes, I'm sure some E-Trade customers were spending time monitoring the IPO page very closely... but other E-Trade customers were spending time on-hold w/ E-Trade to moan and groan (actually, I think "to whine" works best here) that they couldn't get in on an IPO b/c it was closed in 15-20 minutes.

Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch. You gotta' give a little to get a little, the lottery format kills that spirit.

My 2 cents...
