Frederick, the answer to your questions will be known in
one month when msft releases figures. But you should have
gotten a clue from the press releases during the office2000
release. Also, you could go to local software retail stores
and ask how office2000 is selling. You will find the answer.

What I have found so far is about 2x of my expectations

From what I've been able to determine, the BIG improvement in Office 2000 is improved web publishing support. Will a large number of people find this a compelling reason to upgrade? Will the 'free upgrade', included with purchases of Office 97, cannibalize early Office 2000 sales? Will Office 2000 boost PC sales in 1999, and beyond?

Thanks, Fred.

There are a lot of other benefits to Office 2000, but let me throw just one out (one of my personal favorites) - self-repairing applications. As in:

"Office 2000 automatically detects and fixes errors without users even knowing there was a problem. If necessary, Office 2000 automatically verifies and reinstalls the files and registry entries needed to run successfully."

In other words, if a user accidentally deletes an .exe or .dll, the new Windows Installer technology will automatically replace it. The same technology also allows for component install on-demand.
