Henry,
Three notes on Teradyne:

1. Word from friends in the industry is that Teradyne is totally booked out the rest of the year on their Catalyst (system-on-a-chip, mixed-signal) systems and that by the end of the year they will be shipping two per day. Bodes well for them since mixed-signal chips are the fastest growing segment of the market, and they appear to be establishing dominance in the testing of mixed-signal chips.

2. Sue Billat, semiconductor equipment analyst at BancBoston Robertson Stephens, spent 25 minutes on a Net-broadcasted interview yesterday. Teradyne was one of her 4 picks for top semiconductor capital equipment stocks to invest in (two of the others were AMAT and PRIA; can't remember the third.) See biz.yahoo.com for details about how to play back the talk from informedinvestor.com. FYI, Billat was the person who totally called the semi test recovery last fall.

3. With the industry finally beginning its long-awaited move to 300mm wafer production, it's worth noting that although they may be able to squeeze more chips off a single wafer, semiconductor companies are still going to have to test every one of these chips--greatly increasing the need for production test equipment. Good news again for Teradyne. Guess that's why there's been so much institutional buying of
Teradyne stock the last week or so....
