Ann:

I appreciate your concern, but really, I'm fine.

I'm happy that you have a faith and I hope that it sustains you. I simply have no need of it.

I don't think that you understand that I gain strength from my agnosticism. I am made strong and secure by the clear distinction that I make between that which I know and that which I do not know. I never have even a moment's doubt because if I have any reason to doubt a belief, I don't hold that belief.

As an example:

Q. Is there life on other planets?

A. I don't know.

There, see how easy that was?

I'm content to say "I don't know," and I actually gain strength from doing so, because I know that I don't know. I have no doubts because I have no beliefs. I simply have that which I know, and that which I do not.

But thanks anyway,

-BLT
