John, thanks for the interesting link. The only missing factoid is how many of those 100 people own CMGI...

A Quote and a Question:

I also invest in Big Flower Holdings (BGF) another direct marketer. Here is a quote from their annual report:

...our industry today is highly fragmented. In sector after sector, the participants are numerous, and many are small, inefficient and technologically laggard....Acqusitions create an inherent competitive advantage because we are able to offer our customers a spectrum of connected services, all performing at the same high levels of technological capability and high profitability.

I think the principles hold true for MSGI as well.

Now, the question: CMGI, BGF, & MSGI start as direct marketers and have added internet "incubation" as a major part of their strategy. What is it about the future and the net that direct marketers see to encourage this move? Can someone define the dynamics of the trend, the wave, they all see and hope to ride? I'm asking for more specifics than "the net is the future" kind of answer.

Direct marketers are on to something. This only gives me more confidence in MSGI and the potential of their next acquisitions.
