LU has plugged a big hole
(85%), and might be going after Juniper to round out it's core product line

Juniper will not sell for less than $10B. If LU makes an offer like this the stock will suffer greatly.....for a while...

voice-to-packet switching platforms big time starting
this year. The technology was proven last year and is being perfected and
implemented this year (mainly ASND's Stratus hand-off equipment).

you have to be kidding... right?

It sounds to me, from reading your posts on CSCO, LU, and ASND(when I still owned ASND)threads that LU/ASND is like your favorite sports team(if you like sports), and only one company is going to win the "big game"...Why cant you own many networkers (CSCO NT etc.), or be like me who owns and have owned CSCO LU ASND FORE XYLN and PAIR. There is no reason to limit yourself to one stock when all of them can make you money.

Mighty Mizzou,

Thank you for your perspective. Here are some of my thoughts on what you said. Regarding to Juniper, I am not sure that Lucent can benefit much from it. Though Juniper routers are supposedly to be very fast, so are those of many other startups. But good technology alone will not crack Cisco's dominance. And before looking to buy something, always take a look at what Bell Labs has. I will not be surprised if Bell Labs come out with some superior router. As for voice over packet, I don't think the technology is ready yet. Demonstrating it working is different from really working. Besides, Lucent's customers have traditional been conservative in implementing un-proven technologies. Circuit switching is still the product to sell. And if the telcos are truely ramping up voice over packet, I would sell all of my LU and put everything on CSCO. Because when it comes to IP, Cisco is the king.
