Re: GEC/Marconi/Reltec/Fore Systems

Regis and Thread,
I can't even come close to addressing your questions, but I'm sure Frank will respond.

Just thought I would bring up the recent facts concerning Marconi. I don't know if your post was an omen or not, but by pure coincidence I was figuring out what to do with my Fore Systems (sym: FORE) shares so I thought I would share what I learned. It's kind of confusing. It appears I need to make a decision by tomorrow. I had never even heard of Marconi until just today.

FORE Shareholders were offered $35/share by GEC,p.l.c.(General Electric Company, p.l.c. GEC has NOTHING to do with US based GE). Apparently FORE will be folded into Marconi Communications. Marconi Communications is a wholly owned subsidiary of GEC,p.l.c. So the combination of Realtec and Fore makes Marconi a formidiable competitor for the US markets. Interesting news you mentioned about MRVC supplying the triplexer for Reltec's DISC. Lots of well known names involved with Marconi now.

Anyway it appears, whether or not FORE shareholders agree, the $35 offer is final. Shareholders were not offered a chance to vote on the deal. Lawsuits have been filed, etc. etc. Apparently it was all done via the Fore board of directors without a shareholder vote. The reason this is important to Marconi, is the lawsuit will be Marconi's problem after the buyout date.

We had a discussion on this thread, concerning Realtec about 8 months ago. Now, Cleveland based Realtec has been renamed Marconi Communications. So we'll probably be hearing more and more about Marconi. This confusing post may be a good point for future reference.

FORE had also been previously mentioned by me because they supplied the switching equipment for Time Warner's HFC cable modem project (Roadrunner) in the central Florida area.

Anyway, just thought I would post for the record. I can't tell you how many times I've referred back to our ANTC/NT/BAY/Arris Interactive - Cornerstone posts. Sounds like if Marconi Communications becomes a hot company, maybe this post will be good for future reference.
