The Lawless Roads I think I have, is that the one he wrote in Mexico, about bandits? At least that is what I remember, with a bandit and a skull on the cover? I bought a paperback copy the last time I went to Mexico, I believe I bought it at a supermercado in Merida. Or, maybe I bought it to take on the trip, which would have meant that I bought it at the Tulane bookstore. Anyway, it's in the basement, in a box. I never throw anything away if it's written by a writer I like, and I really like Graham Greene.

Yes, a great read from my childhood as a naturalist. Guess I was deceived by a tendency to put everything into iambic pentameter (voyage only has a one beat). Ed was a hero of mine -- making a living as he did -- the real hero of Cannery Row.
