I was with VWR when the announcement was made about E.Merck buying the first 10% or so of VWR, coupled with "rights" to buy up to a max 49% or so later (I'd have to look up the dates). Immediately after, VWR announced acquisition of Baxter's Industrial Division. So, the possibility of E.Merck's control hinged only on shares owned by Mr. Harris and his mother.

I wore many hats actually, but latest function as part of team for the above Baxter transition (kind of like Ma Bell's divestiture...but backwards....and yes, i did that too).

The Chemdex deal, IN MY OPINION, would shift what USED to be an awkward 3rd party product ordering system. I can't believe VWR would even bother if it wasn't efficient, or more efficient.

As for WEB transactions, I'm sure VWR would like to be first. They already had catalogs via C.D., and direct customer ordering via computer in the works a few years ago.

A step forward....i'll consider buying if Nowak turns out to be THE MAN.
