It's probably silly to guess on companies with no earnings and drugs "in the pipeline". Oncology is littered with the carcasses of promising drugs and agents that never made it out of Phase I or Phase II or Phase III.

When I was in medical school nobody wanted to go into oncology because "the cure" was just 2 or 3 years away. Smart bombs using monoclonal antibodies were the obvious answer. Today (10 years later) we still are talking about the hidden promise of these drugs.

My partner talks about the excitement over cancer vaccines for melanoma and other cancers when he was a resident (25 years ago). What is hot today? You guessed it.

Antiangiogenesis makes sense (to my simple mind) as a treatment for cancer. A recombinant human molecule SHOULD have less toxicity than a foreign molecule, even if it is more difficult to produce. Several difficult to manufacture human molecules are marketed and if the drug works, I guarantee it will be made in bulk. I think it is promising and I own some ENMD. BUT, I own it as a hedge against its success. It would certainly put me out of business. So I bet one months salary against the loss of my future earnings. I think it would be very unwise to look at investments in any of these companies as anything more than roulette though.

BTW, someone mentioned buying ENMD and selling on upticks with good news. I think it makes no sense to buy a stock this risky in the hopes of making a quick 20-50%. People that buy this are hoping for 1000% over the next 5-6 years. If it cures cancer, it would do much better than that.
