There's little question that the two had a volatile relationship that was in part shaped by alcohol. However, from what I've read of it, and of thier own words on the subject, there was a depth of affection and loyalty that can not be dismissed as mere alcoholic co-dependence.

And is it important that Hellman looked better through beer goggles? <g>
