Steve there IS a difference between AOL and CPQ, DELL and Iomega...Today ISPs are giving away computers for free, as part of a sign up to the internet package...also backup drives today have to be much larger than what Iomega offers...but...the internet is still here and growing faster than ever....So where do we put our money? I vote for the leader :) I don't know how low AOL will go, but I do know the fundamentals haven't changed, and if AOL goes down, then so will the followers...we are in a correction, but AOL is too volatile for me to trade...I wont sell because I've been burned too often, seeing this stock explode up as soon as I sell...I learned my lesson...Good luck to you.

"The 1990-1999 advance may be followed by a longer decline than any of you have witnessed in your short investing careers."

Steve, if you really believe that is going to happen, then why not sell ALL of your stocks?

Jim

Steve, the IOMEGA scenario is that its technology got supeceded by the CD ROM. Their JAZ drive is a good portable mass stotage technology but that again is also facing competition from newer and superior technologies. I think their shareholders failed to see the writing on the wall in terms og superior competing technologies.

CPQ cut off the branch on which they were sitting by virtue of poor management and the management inability for foresight.

DELL has realized that their product is similar to cell phones. Given away for free. When people give PCs away for free so that they can use it as a tool to access the Internet, it is a sign that the semis are making way for the Internet.

Now has anything fundamentally changed for AOL? The management continues to be "Michael Jordanian". The Internet technology is still very new. Here in Silicon valley we continue to see venture capital continue to set their sights on the Internet, more than willing to put money down on Internet/e-commerce startups. People continue to give up their jobs at established semiconductor companies and move over to e-commerce startups. After all did not Lou Gertsner mention that IBM is chipping away at the e-commerce market by providing server and other hardware. The Internet sun is just about rising and it is past dawn.

The Internets will be the first to take off when investor sentiments bottom out.
