Mohan please correct me if I'm wrong but yes I think the last name should tell you something about the person's level in society. It's a very rigid caste system they have there.

Yes India is a democracy but seems much more like a peasant/ruler society. There are changes being made but it's very hard to change people.

You won't believe this but amongst Sikhs (or at least the ones I know) there also seems to be this underlying white supremacy thing going on. The fairer your skin is the more they seem to like you. Go figure... we're not completely white ourselves. Can't figure that one out. Maybe it had something to do with the British rulers... who knows.

I should have married a black guy... then I would have been excommunicated for life instead of only 17 years... lol

P.S.: if you follow all their rules about castes and religion... you pretty much have to marry your own cousin. yikes!
