>I think one can develop an unconquerable will by believing in oneself.<

I don't think that it can be sustained however. Your average schizophrenic is highly motivated to think straight. Your average guy with a rag of chloroform being pressed to his face is highly motivated to stay conscious. The will is subordinate to the meat.

How could a reasonable person have faith in
a god like that.

You must feel very lonely, as one of the few reasonable people in this country. It amazes me that this country got founded at all, given that the people who established Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and all the other colonies were such unreasonable people. Not to mention Washington, Jefferson, Paine, and most if not all of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. All unreasonable men. And so many of us on this thread, so unreasonable. How can you stand to discourse with us?

Walking on coals has to be something other than a trick or faith in action. There has to be a physiological or physical reason that it doesn't hurt or burn, because it's become a standard practice for self-actualizers and business-motivators to go to fire-walking seminars. I've read about it, I think I would try it if one of those shindigs came around locally, but I don't think my power of faith would keep me from being burned.

Hah! Fire-walking is just a trick. But I still want to try it. I petted a 900 pound liger, too, but you'll never get me to bungee-jump.
