maybe ATHM will be one of the first to bring teleconferencing into the NET chatrooms as a household item.

I have wondered since I was a child reading science fiction novels whether people will take to video telecommunications when it is finally cheap and easily available. 30 years I have waited and wondered.

The time is growing near. The technology is finally available in a reasonably inexpensive and widespread way (if it is not too popular that is).

Will people take to it? Will video chat be the "killer app" for broadband? Noone is more perfectly placed to take advantage of it than the combination of Excite and @home.

Sadly, I dont think so. Used, but not massivly popular. Not yet anyway. The technology is still just a little weak. More importantly the people are not ready. Not mature enough yet. People who take to online chat do it often because they like being anonymous. You can put aside yourself and act any way you want. I have talked to people on IRC and when I see a picture of them I find myself disappointed. I preferred the mystery of imagining them however I wanted to.

Opinions?
Eric

You can count on it. I have heard through the grape vine that this is already on the drawing board and will be a reality in the near future. However, ATHM will not be the only ones doing it by any means. Will they be one of the leaders? Maybe...
