Paul,

Re: Set top boxes,

Do you know what CPU Scientific ATlanta uses. Appears demand is stronger than original forecast:

Paul and Thread - <Intel's 0.18 micron 400 MHz Mobile Pentium II (Dixon QS) runs at 1.5 volts with a MAXIMUM power dissipation of 9.8 WATTS at 400 MHz.>

I need to apologize to the thread. I believe I stated either here or on the AMD thread that these would run at 1.3V. I was thinking of something else.

Still, 9.8 watts ain't too shabby for a mobile application.

Paul - RE: "Intel's 0.18 micron 400 MHz Mobile Pentium II (Dixon QS) runs at 1.5 volts with a MAXIMUM power dissipation of 9.8 WATTS at 400 MHz."

What is that you say???

"Intel's .18 micron 400 MHz Mobile Pentium II (Dixon QS) runs at 1.5 volts"?

Well,

"The mobile Pentium II processor 366 MHz operates at an internal core voltage of 1.6 volts...", and this chip is made on the .25 micron process.

intel.com

So let me get this straight, Intel went to a much smaller die size, but only dropped the voltage .1?

Let me guess your response - "Less power dissipation is more important in notebooks."
