Are you trying to say that if people think they comprehend God, it leads to war and tyranny? There are many
more instances of people who rightly or wrongly feel that they comprehend God and are moved towards
acts of love, compassion, and kindness. Lumping atrocities together with the concept of Godly comprehension
is rather meaningless in and of itself.

Didn't suggest that at all. I'm saying for the sake of what is taught in the Bible that it is better to assume you're wrong than it is to assume the Bible is right. Empowering a figurative text of words to be the end all truth will allow people the ability to give self-righteous statements of interpretation, saying that they were empowered by God to do so. All they need is people to follow them, and like any religious movement, there are some who you could find to follow you (historical reference: Waco, Texas).

And I have heard many of these people condemn others time and time again with eternal damnation. Even if "acts of love, compassion, and kindness" exist, there usually is no ideological room for those that do not believe.

Of course, this is a perspective issue, and I perceive that you don't run into issues with this daily in real life. So I understand your point of view.

To comprehend is defined as "to understand the
importance or meaning of"

Nowhere does it say the "to understand the importance of" in this definition.

As far as the Bible is concerned, I am neither a jew nor a christian(and don't believe in organized
relgion) and don't think the Bible should taken literally. So that has nothing to do it with it either.

The question is, should we look at it the same way we would a textbook? Or should we look at it the same way we read, say, Tennessee Williams? I personally cannot base anything I know to be true on something I read by Tennessee Williams because Tennessee Williams is not the end all solution.

If you're going to say, "we shouldn't base our lives on the Bible at all," then I agree with you. This book should be read figuratively. I just merely pointed out that if it were to be a

We all have opinons and some of them are strongly held convictions and some are mere guesses. Being self righteous has nothing to do with it.

See the RMIL logs for future study on that issue. Tell me if you feel that message board doesn't exude self-righteousness based on an absolute false notion. Tell me if there's nothing wrong with having "mere guesses" as opinions.

The reason I think it's safer, for me, is because it provides me not only with the answers I seek, but with the answers that people might not have thought to look for. That's all. No biggeh.
