The generic answer to all your questions is "no" <g>.

Ahhhhh ..yes....missed you man..we haven't 'conversed' for awhile now so I thought I'd just keep the flame alive <g>

ASPI! CAM!
GOD DAMN!

Catchy..haiku like...

That was the problem.. ASPI8DOS.SYS was in my second line of A:\config.sys so the SCSI CD Driver was not loading because its ASPI was not being found in sequence so the cd was not being seem. There was a message during bootup, as you indicated there should be. I didn't understand that proper sequencing was necessary. Once I put ASPI in the first line of config.sys everything fell into place and both cd s are now recognized in DOS.. I: is the IDE and J: is the Plextor.

nothing you do in Win95 is going to affect the
DOS assignment of drive letters.

You can't have two MSCDEX lines,
but you CAN have more than one D: switch on the
one instance.

These are the kind of factual statements I can really sink my teeth into <g> didn't know either before..know both now = happiness.

Don't you have a dos
help function? If not, you should've installed DOS 6.2

No help function..maybe its a w98 DOS thing. I wouldn't mind having DOS 6.2..is it available for purchase as a single product or download?

The DOS delete command is DEL.

Tried deleting the plextor.sys in root level floppy..got ACCESS DENIED.

looks like you have the spacing
wrong.

Sorry..SI post typo...I had it right on the floppy.

BTW I like the Plextor CDRW and haven't had any crashing problems. They just came out with 8x write version yesterday for $350+. I'll be happy with this 4x write for $100 lesss for awhile.

Thanks, Spots

Clarence

D-Link 5 port switch: big thumbs up.

Got this yesterday ($93 from buy.com), and am very impressed so far. Smaller than my previous 4 port fast hub, this has modest power requirements, a fan that's low enough to not be annoying (sounds like an air conditioner) and a noticable throughput improvement when I'm transferring files between machiens and downloading stuff simultaneously. Gets Mr. Cheap's seal of approval. :)
