We either meet our Creator on our terms Or His terms. I'd rather meet him on his terms and receive his mercy and grace. If I meet him on "my terms," frankly I wouldn't cut the mustard. I am too great of a sinner. Isaiah said: "Woe is me, I am a man of unclean lips..." He said that when he received a vision of God. When we see a Holy God, we realize how unholy we are. Remember, the greatest gospel in a nutshell is still John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. A circle of crispy pharisees would have convinced me, especially garnished with some Roman soldiers and priests. Crispy pharisees huh...haha, I am not sure if it would have or not . He did many miracles and still they wanted more. Besides if He had convinced them, they would have tried to keep him alive to make Him King, because they still did not understand.(besides they would have just said the lightning bolt was coincidence...:o) How could Jesus blame his killers, He did not if you remember His words were......"Father, forgive them for they know not what they do" .
