Cymer Receives Multiple Orders . . . .biz.yahoo.com Tuesday June 15, 11:00 am Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: Cymer, Inc. Cymer Receives Multiple Orders For ELS-5005 Excimer Laser Upgrade Kits For 0.25-Micron and Below Semiconductor Processing Upgrade Designed to Lower Operating Costs for ELS-5000 Laser By Up To 45 Percent SAN DIEGO, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Cymer, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYMI - news), the world's leading supplier of illumination sources essential for deep ultraviolet (DUV) photolithography, today announced it has received orders for over 50 of its ELS-5005 upgrade kits from leading semiconductor manufacturers in Korea, Taiwan and the United States. The ELS-5005 upgrade, designed for the installed base of Cymer's ELS-5000 lasers in production at wafer fabs manufacturing 0.25-micron and below devices, can lower the laser's operating cost (CoOp) by up to 45 percent as compared to the introductory ELS-5000 CoOp. Cymer's ELS-5005 upgrade kit was designed as a cost-effective means for customers to lower the cost of operations of their existing ELS-5000 lasers to that of Cymer's more advanced ELS-5010 laser. Additionally, the upgrade kit enables lithography tool operators to use a common set of spare parts between the upgraded ELS-5005 lasers and the ELS-5010 lasers, thus simplifying spare parts inventory management. Another key incentive for customers to purchase the upgrade kits is the ease with which Cymer's global customer support teams can implement the upgrades, minimizing costly down time in the fab. According to Pascal Didier, senior vice president, worldwide customer operations at Cymer, ''This upgrade package extends the time between preventative maintenance, which increases the overall system uptime of the ELS-5000, thus enhancing customers' advanced IC manufacturing capabilities and increasing their profitability. The market acceptance of the ELS-5005 provides further evidence of Cymer's ability to develop value-added products and our commitment to support our installed base of light sources.'' The optimum ELS-5005 upgrade configuration contains the improved, longer-lifetime ELS-5010 core modules, including the discharge chamber, Cymer's proprietary line-narrowing module, high-voltage power supply, compression head, commutation module, stabilization module and enhanced software. The optimum configuration is designed to provide the lowest cost of operations for the ELS-5000 lasers. Cymer, Inc. is the leading provider of excimer laser illumination sources, the essential light source for deep ultraviolet (DUV) photolithography systems. DUV lithography is a key enabling technology which has allowed the semiconductor industry to meet the exact specifications and manufacturing requirements for volume production of today's advanced semiconductor chips.
