L&T scrip bounces back, triggering revival mood

June 14: Larsen & Toubro, with an index weight of mere 3.22 per cent, provided the trigger for a revival in market sentiment. The Sensex, which had lost around 140 points at one stage, recovered strongly to end the day with a net loss of mere 19 points.

The Larsen counter on National and Bombay Stock Exchanges clocked a phenomenal volume of over 1 crore shares against the average daily volume of 22-25 lakh shares. The scrip witnessed the second highest turnover of Rs 133.96 crore on the BSE. After opening the day at Rs 287, the stock closed at Rs 312.85 on the NSE, while it ended at Rs 314.15 on the BSE........

Templeton AMC unveils GILT fund.[Templeton India Government Securities Fund]

Mumbai, June 14: The Templeton Asset Management Company, with assets under management in excess of Rs 370 crore for period ended June 3, 1999, has announced the launch of a gilt fund christened the Templeton India Government Securities Fund. The fund is an open-ended scheme which will be open for one day on June 21, for the initial subscription period, and will reopen the next day for perpetual investment.

Quoting from the RBI report on currency and finance for 1998, president and chief executive officer of Templeton AMC Vijay C Advani said: "Of the total household savings of $43 billion in 1998, a large pool of around 94 per cent went to investments avenues perceived to be safe by the investors: the bank deposits (46 per cent), LIC (11 per cent), provident fund (18 per cent), currency (7 per cent) and government securities (12 per cent), and this huge pool of money is what we are targeting at. A look at these statistics reveal that a huge portion of our population is looking for safety and liquidity fortheir investments and this is exactly what we are targeting through the gilt fund."...

Lastech's IndoMail speaks 12 Indian languages

Chennai-based Lastech Systems Private Ltd has launched its e-mail Software - 'IndoMail', which facilitates sending e-mails in 12 Indian Languages.

The languages covered by IndoMail are Assamesse, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu.

A release claimed that except in the case of Tamil, IndoMail is the first e-mail software for all other 11 Indian languages.

IndoMail, priced at Rs 400, ensures that any Email client software like Netscape Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora can be used to read the Indian language mail. It also supports Email services like Hotmail.

The other features offered by IndoMail include Indian Language Menu Support (People who are familiar with only Indian languages will find it easy to use due to the availability of menu items in Indian languages), keyboard layouts (DOE Phoenetic, Typewriter and Romanized) and automatic font selection while changing the language.

Indian Language message can be composed easily by using the Onscreen Keyboard Layout and Layout- Sensitive Character Set Window.

It also allows to toggle between Indian language and English by pressing a key. The Mail receipient can read the Indian language Mail without installing any additional software including IndoMail.
