Ten,

How many of the snafus made by AMD hit their bottom line? Almost all of them.

AMD has been behind in the MHz race for the past 5 years. Because of this, they have had to be very aggressive in ramping new speed grades. Every time they have missed schedule by a few weeks, it gets amplified out of proportion by the investment community.

Perhaps Intel will find themselves in a similar position in the not too distant future?

As much as everyone likes to blame AMD manufacturing for the lack of profitability, the real issue has been that the K6 design was not fast enough to get past the market segmentation price/performance curve knee.

Intel took a $475 million writeoff. One of the biggest boo-boos in business history. A favorite business case on management stupidity. Read Andy's treatment in Only the Paranoid Survive.
