Ross Systems Announces Renaissance Portal; RenaissanceLink Provides Gateway to Internet and e-Commerce Via the RNA Intelligent Desktop

ATLANTA, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Ross Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROSS), the leading provider of enterprise resource planning, advanced planning solutions and customer management systems for the process manufacturing industry, has introduced the Renaissance portal, RenaissanceLink, a unique application deployment capability that allows users to gain access to multiple applications with an easy click of the mouse.

RenaissanceLink is part of the navigational framework of Ross Systems' new, advanced Renaissance Network Architecture (RNA). RNA is a distributed component-based architecture that enables users to access multiple applications from one location. RenaissanceLink provides not only an enterprise view through traditional backbone transaction applications, but also a view of the world outside the enterprise through the Internet or extranets.

"The RenaissanceLink portal is a significant new deliverable for Ross Systems," said Pat Tinley, President and COO of Ross Systems. "Users of the Renaissance ERP, advanced planning and customer management systems now have the ability to see their entire business universe from one screen. This is a significant advancement in our architecture that gives our customers great flexibility and latitude for their user community."

The RenaissanceLink portal provides a wide range of views for the Intelligent Desktop user:

* A panoramic view of the integrated Renaissance ERP family of

applications including financials, manufacturing, maintenance and human

resources.

* Access to the Renaissance APS family of advanced planning tools

including finite capacity scheduling, sales forecasting, demand

planning and transportation management.

* Access to the Renaissance CustomerLink applications, an integrated

family of procurement, order pricing, order processing, order

availability and status and vendor managed inventory systems.

* Access to the Renaissance e-commerce suite of applications.

* Access to the Internet, intranet and extranets.

* Access to legacy applications.

* Access to third party applications.

* Access to a range of decision support and executive information tools

called DSSuite.

* Access to desktop productivity tools such as Microsoft Office.

* All of the above are provided in 16 languages for effective global

implementation.

RenaissanceLink Portal

The RenaissanceLink portal and navigational framework is a common desktop interface for the users' universe of applications. It incorporates an application window with a customizable window containing organized 'shortcuts.' A 'shortcut' is a graphical image with properties, a label and behavior, similar to shortcuts on the Microsoft Windows desktop. The application window also includes scrollable messages. Documents normally rely on the status line and pop-up message boxes to communicate with the user.

All documents are displayed maximized in a common frame. Within the frame, the client window acts as a virtual display of the data contained in associated documents. Documents are viewed full frame, in the entire client window of the container. As users select a document, the container adjusts the entire view area, including toolbars and menus. To the user, it is like working in a single application, since the frame itself never changes or goes away.

RenaissanceLink uses a browser look and feel for maximum flexibility and ease of use.

The Intelligent Desktop -- An Integral Component of RNA

The Renaissance Network Architecture (RNA) is the recently announced development and execution model for the family of Renaissance applications. It is designed to work synergistically with the Microsoft Distributed interNet Application (DNA) architecture.

Key principles of RNA include:

* A distributed, n-tier application architecture

* A component-based software development model

* A task-oriented business process and user model

At the core of Task Oriented Computing is RNA COM. RNA COM is made up of three integrated, seamless layers: Presentation Layer (Intelligent Desktop); Business Process Layer; and Data Access Layer.

The RNA Intelligent Desktop represents the user view of the enterprise and provides various environment deployment and management tools. In effect, the Intelligent Desktop helps users define 'RenaissanceLink.'

"RenaissanceLink, through the Intelligent Desktop, is unique to each user and provides their window to the enterprise," says Pat Tinley. "It starts with the unique desktop profile provided to each user. Graphical views of business processes as well as organizational and decision support data enable users to better understand, appreciate and perform their roles in the enterprise. They can retrieve information more quickly, make better business decisions and work more productively.

"As a result, the unique RenaissanceLink desktop provides instant access -- usually with only one or two mouse clicks -- to the information and tools users need," stated Tinley. "RenaissanceLink environment is also visually intelligent. With access to SAM (Strategic Application Modeler), users can quickly see graphical views of business processes and decision support data. Users have the power to adjust business processes to reflect their requirements and those of the organization."
