"Who would invest in a market where you can only expect to maintain market at best, allow for your customers to be taken away by your own investment, and not be allowed to compete in a different technology within your own market? I would put my money into completely different markets altogether with this proposal. Wouldn't you?"

Ken De Paul,
Clean slate v. what is going on, a little of both really.

I thought we are in agreement regarding the, "open access," issue from what I'm reading above?

It just surprises me that AT&T has made this extraordinary risky commitment, and yet gets so much flack for it. I have considered GTE to be an ILEC, but shouldn't. Frank is correct. The ILECs aren't attacking AT&T.

The ILECs(Most local phone companies) have had the exact same argument that AT&T is currently making as the reason ILECs have not deployed DSL to the masses. Most consumers don't understand this issue and I would really be discouraged if AT&T was stopped cold with their broadband plans. Hence my soapbox.

But enough of my soapbox.
