Asia bucks world trend in military expenditure

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Asian countries have expanded their military budgets by more
than 25% over the last decade despite a steady downward trend in the
rest of the world, a leading think tank said Wednesday.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute says in its
annual report that military spending in Asia grew 27% in the 10 years
to 1998 while the total world figures showed a drop of one-third in
the same period.
