That should be the Party's position, not the Constitutional amendment plank, and it has been the position of most candidates...

Edit - oh I see maybe you meant a middle ground for conservatives.... yes in that case perhaps you are correct

Here's a middle ground....

1) Roe v Wade is the law of the land.
2) I (as a candidate) feel abortion is a private matter between a family and their physicians (or church if relevant).
3) I will not disclose my personal views on abortion, nor will I "screen" supreme court judges based on their roe v. wade leanings.

In other words, we have our laws, its a non-issue
